Dead City Support Club

from A Nut Unbroken by Phil Johnson of Roadside Attraction

/

about

Every artist has played an off night show when nobody but the bartender applauds, because there's nobody else there. And yet everyone, the soundman, the bartenders, the bands, do their job because they love what they do and want more than anything to entertain someone.

lyrics

I arrived on an average Tuesday night
For another meeting of the
Dead City Support Club
Soundman was gearing up for the fight
Even though there was no audience in sight
It was just another night for the
Dead City Support Club

Chorus
The band played it’s heart out on every song
The bartenders clapped as they sang along
Dead City Support Club ignored the gloom
As the sound bounced off the empty room
Everybody was there for the love
Dead City Support Club

At 10:05 a crazy girl walked in
Drunk or high we could not begin to tell
She danced like she was watching the dead and not the
Dead City Support Club

Chorus

As the hands of time ticked away
I heard the weird girl say
She was feeling down but we brought her back up
We looked at each other and smiled
Decided it was all worthwhile
To find a little bit of life left after all

Chorus

It’s a battle that has taken Phil to such esteemed festivals as the Edinburgh Fringe and Sundance Film Festivals and the Top 8 Finals of the World Series of Comedy. ... more
